Tooth Colored Fillings
Having a tooth filled is a very basic dental procedure. This involves cleaning decay from the tooth and filling the space where bacteria can enter in order to help prevent further decay. Traditional filling materials include gold or an amalgam, an alloy of mercury; silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc, which are not necessarily the most attractive.
As a Denver Prosthodontist practice committed to creating the most natural looking smiles, Dr. Aldo Leopardi of DenteVita Prosthodontics offers color-matched composite resin and porcelain fillings as alternative filling materials.
Composite resin fillings are placed directly into the cavity where they harden. We typically don’t use resin for excessively large fillings as they may chip. However, with proper care, they can last up to ten years.
Porcelain fillings are color matched and created in our lab to be an exact fit. They are then bonded to the tooth. Porcelain fillings are harder, more stain resistant and they are also expected to last longer than resins.
