Englewood, Colorado
Just like its sister city, Littleton, and many others in this area surrounding Denver, Englewood, Colorado’s history begins because of a rush for gold in 1858. Thomas Skerritt is assumed to be the founder of the city of Englewood and he created a road connecting Denver and Orchard Place, Colorado himself using his own plow. Years later, in 1879, the first telephone was installed in the town of Englewood, further connecting it to the rest of the country and local surrounding area. Between 1879 and 1907 many new and exciting things came to the town of Englewood. First, in 1883, the Cherrelyn horsecar path was installed. This allowed for smooth travel downtown by horse drawn carriage. Then the Swedish National Sanitorium was founded in 1905. This is the location of the present day, massive, Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. The following three years of history for Englewood included the first street lights, paved streets, and the police and fire departments were formed as well. Since this time to present day of course many more improvements and installations were put into Englewood making it the modern, present day city it has become.
There are many things to do in Englewood for locals and tourists alike. The locals enjoy the ease and convenience of the passenger rail transit system that allows them cheap transportation. Summer fun includes a visit to Pirates Cove Family Fun Aquatic Center where you can plunge down one of three large waterslides or enjoy the sun in the lazy river. Another local favorite is catching an evening show at the fiddlers green amphitheater. Past entertainers have including the Foo Fighters, Dave Mathews Band, and Lil Wayne which draw in a packed house. Of course there are also draws in the many local golf courses and museums including the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Co. The climate in Englewood allows people to enjoy the snowy winter months and hot summer months that get them out on the local Platte River.
